Ever read about a 5 or even 10-step beauty routine: cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser, exfoliator…. confused? Bewildered? Downright daunted?
Dreaming that your skin could look better? Don’t fret! A few simple tips, repeated consistently as part of your daily routine will help nourish and protect your skin to look it's best.
A beauty regime shouldn’t be scary and confusing with its intricate steps but should be a nourishing and hydrating daily ritual to restore your skin before and after a long day of battling the elements.
So how many steps should your daily skincare routine encompass for best results?
Put simply - it depends on each person. Everyone’s skin is unique, so your routine should be adapted to your particular skin type, be it very dry and sensitive to oily or even acne-prone.* Choose products that enhance your skin’s natural properties rather than stripping it bare! (*Consult a doctor or dermatologist for specific skin conditions).
Since our skin is the human body’s largest organ, here at BotaniVie, we believe in its own natural restorative powers, helped along with a little bit of magic from a select few products that can aid to purify and hydrate your skin.
The essentials:
AM: Prep your skin for the day - at least cleanse, moisturise and SPF daily.
PM: Help your skin repair itself - at least double cleanse, and moisturise.
Use a gentle cleanser morning and night to wash away oil or impurities that might build up in the pores. If wearing make-up and/or SPF during the day, a double cleanse is recommended in the evening to remove all the oil, dirt and make-up from your pores. Follow up the first cleanse, with a second cleanse using a lighter cleanser such as milk/gel or micellar water.
If you want to add an extra step here, follow with an alcohol-free toner to hydrate skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. Use your fingers or a reusable make-up remover pad to dab the skin with toner. This helps balance the skin and prep it before following the moisturising step below.
Morning: after following the cleansing step above, massage skin generously with a Moisturiser to lock in moisture followed by an SPF Mineral Sunscreen to safeguard against the sun’s UV rays – no matter how cloudy it might be outside! This protects your skin from ageing and helps protect against skin cancers.
Evening: after following the cleansing steps above, massage skin generously with a luxuriously rich night moisturiser to nourish and repair your skin overnight.
You can then add in your extra skincare products one by one (checking for no adverse skin reactions to a new product), once you've mastered this basic daily routine to help nourish your skin.
Hydrate, sleep, repeat.
Tips:
- Remember to keep drinking plenty of water throughout the day, also helps to keep skin hydrated and maintain its elasticity!
- Don't forget to use a clean face flannel or reusable make-up remover pad every time you cleanse.
